This second funding round will help meet the costs of activating and delivering the approved study, including the independent oversight, participant-facing materials, eligibility and risk-management processes, data management, and the work needed to complete and report the research responsibly.
A major research milestone
On 1 May 2026, the Institute for Ethical Research Governance (IERG) approved the study, A pilot randomised controlled trial of homeopathic treatment of long COVID, led by Dr Philippa Fibert (IERG reference: Fibert P 01).
Following the withdrawal of the previous external oversight provider, the research team secured independent ethical and methodological oversight through IERG. This is an important step forward for the project.
The approval applies to the study protocol, participant materials, eligibility process, risk controls and data-management arrangements. It is subject to the approval conditions and continuing IERG oversight.
Could you take part in the Long COVID study?
If you are an adult with a formal diagnosis of Long COVID and are still experiencing symptoms, you may be able to help with this important research.
The Long COVID POD is a pilot randomised controlled trial, led by Dr Philippa Fibert at St Mary’s University. It is being carried out entirely online over approximately six months. Participants complete short monthly questionnaires; some are randomly allocated to receive homeopathic care alongside their usual care, while others continue with usual care alone.
There is no cost to take part, no travel is required, and you should continue with your GP and any other healthcare support throughout the study. You can withdraw at any time.

This is a pilot randomised controlled trial exploring the role of individualised homeopathic care alongside usual care for people living with Long COVID. Participants will be recruited using approved criteria and supported through clearly defined study materials, safety procedures and careful data management.
The research will gather participants’ experiences and patient-reported outcomes in a structured, responsibly governed way. Its aim is to contribute to a stronger evidence base, without making assumptions about outcomes for any individual.
About the research team
This study is led by Dr Philippa Fibert. The study team includes Tony Pinkus, Carol Boyce, Galen Ives, and Vinita Pandey.
The study has ethical approval from St Mary’s University (ID: SAHPS_PB_2022-032) and from the Institute for Ethical Research Governance (reference Fibert P 01).
This trial is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07694232). Results will be published openly for the public good.
